Interested students should consult with the College of Arts and Sciences Advising Office or a Department Biological Sciences Faculty Adviser for counseling and assistance in planning their academic programs.

The concentration in Pre-Medical Studies is designed to provide students with a framework for planning pre-medical studies (medicine, dentistry, optometry, and veterinary medicine). The concentration satisfies the minimum admission requirements for most medical and health programs and provides background for the science portion of the standardized aptitude tests: medical (MCAT), dental (DAT), optometry (OAT) and veterinary (VCAT or GRE). This concentration does not constitute a major. Students must elect a major from those offered by the university.

Note


Pre-Optometry concentration students must take 12 credits of mathematics including 1 statistics course (course, course, or course). Pre-Medical and Pre-Health Concentration students are advised to take 2 courses in the behavioral/social sciences (course and course recommended) and one in ethics (course or course recommended).
