Requirements for the minor in World Music


Entrance Auditions

The School of Music, Theatre, and Dance offers a minor in World Music open to both music majors and non-majors. This degree explores the rich music traditions of our world, including global cultures of Africa, India, and the Caribbean. The program is open to all instrumentalist and vocalists.

Students interested in pursuing the minor in World Music should contact the World Music Program Coordinator at stone@oakland.edu. The minor is designed to provide students’ the opportunity to study and perform a range of world music traditions. The program includes individual performance study through applied lessons, ensemble experiences, as well as academic courses exploring music traditions in relation to their culture of origin. The degree is completed through a capstone of study abroad or directed research.

Students must complete a minimum of 20 credits as follows. Only courses in which a grade of at least a C has been earned will count toward the minor.
