Study of music traditions in Africa and the African Diaspora, focusing on cultural context and the relationship of music to language, dance, ritual, and social activities. Some performance required. Satisfies the university general education requirement in the arts knowledge exploration area or in the global perspective knowledge exploration area, not both.
