Requirements for the liberal arts minor in English

A minimum of 20 credits in English courses is required (exclusive of composition courses used to satisfy the Writing Proficiency requirement), with the following stipulations:

A maximum of 4 credits of Creative Writing (CW) courses will be accepted for credit toward the minor
Only 1 1000-level course will be accepted as part of the minor
At least 2 courses must be taken at the 3000 or 4000 level
Only 4 credits of course may apply toward the minor
English minors are encouraged to take advantage of Study-Abroad and Study-Away programs offered through Oakland University. Department Advisers will work with students whenever possible to identify equivalent courses in Study-Abroad and Study-Away programs that will fulfill requirements for the minor.
At least 12 credits from offerings in English must be taken at Oakland.
Only courses in which a student has earned a C may be counted toward the English minor.
course is a prerequisite for Literary History courses, courses in critical and cultural approaches to literature, and the capstone seminar.
