Requirements for the Certificate

Students qualify for a Certificate in Public Speaking and Effective Communication by completing a minimum of 3 of the following courses listed below. Students must complete the courses at Oakland University.

1. Required Core Courses

  • course Public Speaking (4)
    or course Professional Communication (4) 

2. Electives (Choose 2)

  • course Foundations of Communication Studies (4)

  • course Public Speaking (4)

    • May count as a Required Course or an Elective, but not both

  • course Professional Communication (4)

    • May count as a Required Course or an Elective, but not both

  • course Argumentation and Debate (4)

  • course Group Dynamics and Communication (4)

  • course Performance Communication (4)

  • course Nonverbal Communication (4)
