Program Requirements

Requirements for a liberal arts minor in Archaeology


The Archaeology minor is intended for majors in Sciences, Math, Computer Science, History, Art or other Non-Anthropology majors who are interested in applying their major to Archaeology.

To earn a minor in Archaeology students must complete 16 credits distributed as follows:

1. Required Courses


  • course Human Evolution and Archaeology (4)

  • course Archaeological Methods and Theory (4)

2. 2 Elective courses chosen from the following list:


  • course Museum Studies in Archaeology (4)

  • course Archaeology of Ancient Civilizations (4)

  • course Archaeology of North America (4)

  • course Historical Archaeology (4)

  • course Archaeology of Israel (4)

  • course Archaeology, Ideology and Sacred Sites in the Ancient Near East (4)

  • course Archaeological Field School (4 OR 8)

  • course Introduction to Geographic Information Systems (4)

Other Coursework


Students may also use the following courses as Elective choices if the course content is about Archaeology. Students should meet with an advisor regarding Electives.

  • course Current Problems in Anthropology (4)

  • course Special Topics in Anthropology (4)

  • course Field Experience in Anthropology (4)

  • course Independent Study and Research (2 OR 4)

  • course College Teaching Apprenticeship (2 OR 4)

Applicable Majors


All Majors can declare this Minor with the exception of the following Major(s): Anthropology, Anthropology, B.A., Concentration in Linguistics, and Sociology/Anthropology.
