Program Requirements
Students must fulfill the Oakland University General Education Requirements, the General College of Arts and Sciences Requirements, the College of Arts & Sciences Exploratory Requirement, and the Major Requirements. Additionally, students must complete a sufficient number of free elective courses to meet the overall credit requirement for their degree. A minimum of 120 credits is required, although some degree programs may require a higher total credit count.
General Education Requirements
In order to graduate on-schedule without taking additional courses, it is highly recommended that students meet with an Undergraduate Academic Adviser concerning the selection of all of their General Education courses.
Each candidate for an Oakland University baccalaureate will need to satisfactorily complete approved courses in each of the following areas: Foundations, Explorations, and Integration. For details, refer to the General Education Requirements section of the catalog.
Requirements for the liberal arts major in Art History, B.A. program
A minimum of 52 credits, distributed as shown below. At least 16 credits in the major must be taken at Oakland University. Only courses in which the student has earned a grade of C may be counted toward the Art History major.

course Art of the Ancient Near East (4) may satisfy the requirement either for Non-Western or Ancient/Medieval, but not both
course Islamic Art (4) may satisfy the requirement either for Non-Western or Ancient/Medieval, but not both.
course Seminar in Art History (4) may satisfy 1 of the above requirements, the subject area of which will determine the category.
course Special Topics in Art History (1 TO 4) may satisfy 1 of the above requirements, the subject area of which will determine the category. Students may take multiple Special Topics courses, each of which would satisfy not more than one category.
course Study Abroad in Art History (1 TO 4) Visual Cultures of the Italian Peninsula may satisfy the requirement either for Ancient/Medieval or Renaissance/Baroque, but not both.
Students using this catalog to meet Art History major requirements may also use any course subsequently approved as satisfying requirements in the Non-Western, Ancient/Medieval, Renaissance/Baroque, and American/Modern groups and published in a later catalog.

Language Requirement
Students must also complete 1 semester of a foreign language. This requirement also fulfills General Education: Foreign Language and Culture. For students intending to pursue graduate study, the departmental faculty recommends 2 years of college-level foreign language.
Applicable Minors
All Minors are applicable to this major with the exception of the following Minor(s): Art History, Child Welfare, International Orientation for EGR/CS, and Sustainability Engineering.
