The Nineteenth-Century Symphony: History, Performance and Analysis

Course Description

Nineteenth-century symphony from middle-period Beethoven to early Mahler. Aesthetics of absolute music and program music. Performance practice considered through historical recordings. Detailed analysis of selected examples. Satisfies the university general education requirement for the capstone experience. Satisfies the university general education requirement for a writing intensive course in the major. Prerequisite for writing intensive: completion of the university writing foundation requirement. Prerequisite(s): MUS 3332, MUS 2214, MUS 2215; and WRT 1060 or equivalent with a grade of (C) or higher
