Certificate in Directing - 15 credit minimum

The Department of Theatre’s Certificate in Directing is designed for students who wish to pursue a career in stage directing. The program offers both foundational courses in directorial technique and collaboration, while providing opportunities to apply these skills in practical situations.

Requirements for the Certificate in Directing - 15 credits

Students qualify for the Certificate in Directing by completing 15 credits from the courses listed below.

Students who are completing a BA in Theatre, may apply course and course to the certificate.
Students who are completing a BFA in Acting or Theatre Design and Technology may apply course to the certificate.

Required courses - 13 credits

Students must complete the following 13 credits in coursework:

course Directing I (3)
course Directing II (3)
course Advanced Directing Project (1)
course Filmmaking for Non-Majors (4)

Electives - 2 credits

1 additional Theatre Elective (minimum 2 credits) to be chosen from the following:

course Design I (3)
course Theatre History I (3)
course Theatre History II (3)
course Stage Management (3)
course Playwriting (4)
